Calcium pantothenate is a calcium salt of pantothenic acid and is used as a dietary form of vitamin b5. It is also used as a hair conditioning agent in some cosmetics. Although present in many plant and animal tissues, it is commercially synthesized on a large scale from calcium beta-alanine and pantolactone.
