Nicotinic acid, more commonly referred to as niacin or vitamin B3, is industrially synthesized from 5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine and 3-methylpyridine, which are in turn synthesized from acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, ammonia and paraldehyde and ammonia respectively.
