Commercially available nicotinamide is vegan and vegetarian.

Nicotinamide is a form of vitamin B3 used to supplement foods. Industrially it is synthesized from 5-ethyl-2-methylpyridine and 3-methylpyridine, which are in turn synthesized from acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, ammonia and paraldehyde and ammonia respectively. It may be also be produced from microbial fermentation.
