Batyl alcohol is used as an emulsifier or skin conditioning agent in cosmetics. It is found in the liver of sharks and other marine oils, but is not commercially extracted from these sources. Although very little information is available online about its manufacture, it seems likely that it is synthesized from stearyl alcohol and glycerol.
