Calcium oxide is an inorganic chemical used as an anti-caking agent in some foods, as a precursor to monocalcium phosphate, and a variety of other uses in construction, agriculture, and metal refining. In fact, the largest use for calcium oxide is cement. Calcium oxide is produced from limestone, which formed from the shells and skeletons of marine life millions of years ago.
