beer

Vegan? Maybe Vegetarian? Maybe

Classifications are made based on the available commercial supply of the ingredient, and are made based on the criteria on our classifications page.

Commercially available beer may be vegan depending on the source and may be vegetarian depending on the source.

The vast majority of beer, especially when used as an ingredient in a product, is vegan. However, breweries are not required to reveal whether they use animal products in the processing of their beers. In particular, some breweries use animal based finings to clear the beer from yeast. Some beers may also contain milk derived products (generally will not be the case for beer listed as an ingredient in another product).
